Several Voices Given Undivided Attention!
Welcome to my manifesto: Several Voices Given Undivided Attention.
Being part of the part-time student (UNICAF sponsored student) undertaking MSc. Public Health, several issues have been a struggle requiring attention.
The following points are my main area of concern among many others that come along the way when provided the chance to serve.
MANIFESTO:
- Less engagement of students with tutors(less motivation virtually).
- Concerns on timely submissions of grades.
- Lack of one on one discussion (through e.g. Tims, Zoom) feedback sessions with a representative from the University.
- Chance to have a final module in a classroom setup for example UNICAF online sponsored students (Experience of physical ambience of our prestigious University of Suffolk).
I believe in finding a balance even in the most impossible situation. Having experience through part-time, virtual mode of teaching, with several concerns shared among my fellow classmates, I believe there are things lacking when it comes to the virtual community. With the availability of different applications, such as zoom, Tims, skype etc I believe both students and tutors will be able to utilize these applications to their fullest potential. Based on the modules presented ,most approaches when it comes to the tutors has been only through the VLE ,with only one effort by one of the tutors who made use of the Zoom application to further the mode of instruction which was deemed fruitful.Several issues such as delayed grades posting seem to be lacking. Students get to start or even get delayed to start a following module based on luck of availble grades or worsed case scenario start new modules without the results. I would like to take up the given responsibility to challenge the release of grades in time. In addition I believe as students we deserve a second attempt when it comes to assignment submissions, which takes us back to the late submission of grades which plays an important part in measuring an individual's understanding of concept for the consecutive assignment to be done which is to be submitted in a timely manner.I believe second chances can allow students to make up for mistakes encountered to reduce the frustrations of the given studies. The feeling of concern is what drives my representation and it is my hope not only to assist my fellow classmates ,but to assist the entire University when it comes to the development process of all.
Encouragement of one on one session such as arranged virtual calls with the students apart from the feedback forms can assist a lot in the provision of the attention to the different issues faced from different perspectives and answering some of the frequently repeated questions. Lastly request on students doing part-time such as UNICAF students sponsored students to be allowed for at least one module (could be last module) to graduation to attend the University’s class program, to get the experience and exposure of the sponsored University for a perfect feeling of BELONGING.
