My manifesto to contest for Part-time Student Officer
Great day colleagues!!
My name is Maxine Haffner, I am in the first year of my MSc in Public Health with the University of Suffolk and I wish to run for part-time Students Officer. In line with this role, I wish to make sure your voice is heard, and feedback listened to, both on Student Council and the Students' Union's decision-making body for development.
My experience and skills as a healthcare worker and researcher in the Medical Research Council The Gambia at The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (MRCG@LSHTM) have grown immensely, for I have worked in the research setting in different research positions (i.e., nurse, nurse field coordinator, clinical trial monitor) for more than a decade. At present, I operate in a clinical research trial with the acronym PregnAnZI-2 trial (Pre-delivery administration of azithromycin to prevent neonatal sepsis and death: a phase III double-blind randomized clinical trial) as Junior Research Coordinator. I act as the main communicator between sponsors, monitors, and co-investigators within and outside the project. I support ensuring GCP compliance is maintained, coordinate trial activities, maintain trial documents, attend management meetings, liaise with regulatory authorities for up-to-date report progress at the same time attend, train, and conduct seminars. This role helped me develop immensely in communication as I interact with different personnel both face-to-face and online with ease.
More so, during the past five years to date, I have volunteered within different disciplines as a wellbeing committee member, COVID-19 vaccination coordination team member, secretary for both the staff code review committee and MRCG@LSHTM Credit Union respectively. These roles have prepared me perfectly to become the ideal candidate to hear your concerns or recommendations for growth to the student body for the school authority to act on when and if called upon.
With my experience, if elected I aim to carry out the following objectives: -
Objective 1 - To be proactive on all communication matters (queries, concerns, and recommendations) to the appropriate parties and vice versa.
Objective 2 - Increase social interaction amongst students from different platforms (create study groups) share ideas from different experienced students and tutors alike which serves as a learning environment.
Objective 3 – To improve the current approach on rewarding students by the UNICAF referral scheme and advocate to consider students who complete individual modules with excellent grades on such scheme, as a motivating factor for excellence.
Objective 4 – Increase the networking scope for all enrolled students (part-time and campus) during and after their education period for job opportunities.
With your help and support by casting your vote, I would be able to execute the aims and share other innovative insights to improve the status of the university at large.
That been said, I wish to thank you all for your support in advance already counting on you to assist me in completing this quest so that current and prospective students will benefit from all the positive changes implemented over time.
