To put it simply, we believe that every student at the University of Suffolk should have a fantastic experience. We're a charity led by your Student Officers and we want to make sure that we give you the knowledge to shape, mould and develop your experience at the University of Suffolk. We deliver your sports, societies, events and much more whilst you work hard and play harder at University. We're funded largely by the University however we will always remain independent and on your side. Join us on our journey to build the best SU run by students for students.
This is your SU and you own it.
You elect your Student Officers, to fight, campaign and improve your university experience on your behalf. You also elect Course representives each year to sit on Student Council, who hold those Officers you elect accountable and to make sure everything is on track. Student Council is the body of students that debate and put forward motions to improve campus life however big or small. The Officers report everything they do to Student Council within the boundaries of the Rule Book set by Council itself. This is like our golden book to make sure we run elections fairly.
The Trustee board is made up of six members, your two full time Elected Reps, two student Trustees and two external professionals.
They check to make sure that our Golden rule book is working and also make sure we are legal and financially secure. They do all the top level work so that your SU Staff can provide the awesome services you see day to day.
Policy is debated on by Student Council and is passed in the form of 'motions'. These cool little documents outline what the SU is going to do to improve/change or act upon something at University.
They are passed at Council by a simple majority and set as our policy for three years, which can always be extended of course.
Your Bye-Laws outline how we create awesome elections, Democratic Procedures and what your Officers should be doing day to day.
The Staff at the SU are people that thrive on making your lives better. They want to provide the services to make sure you have the best time possible at University. They are completed neutral within the realms of Democracy and Student politics however they will always point you in the right direction of your lovely elected officers. The staff provide the continuity to the services (Sport, Societies, Events etc) while your Officers campaign and improve your experience at University more generally.
