Jumara Stone has led the University of Suffolk Students’ Union for over a year, having joined the team in September 2022, ensuring our support, advocacy, and championing of students is at the core of everything we do and why we do it.
Throughout her time as CEO, Jumara has built and led a strong leadership team, constructed the Union’s 5-year strategy, and has overseen the organisation’s highly respected response to the Cost-of-Living Crisis.
Jumara has been pivotal in the creation of so many relationships and initiatives both within the University, and externally, and ensured the student voice of our University of Suffolk members has been more relevant and acknowledged than ever.
She will continue her role at Suffolk until January 2024, taking up her new position at University of East Anglia Students’ Union early January.
Jumara said: “To have led Suffolk SU as Chief Executive Officer has been an incredible chapter of my career, and it’s been a privilege to be able to do so.
Leaving the University of Suffolk Students' Union after a fulfilling year, I am grateful for the incredible experiences and lessons shared. As I step away, I do so with immense pride in the progress we've made together. I am excited to cheer on the Union from the sidelines, confident in the strength of our foundation and the limitless potential of the future leaders shaping it.
It has made me so grateful to be part of the Suffolk community, and to know that I have been at the heart of a Union which contributes so much to so many.
Thank you for an inspiring journey, and here's to the continued success of Suffolk SU!”
In 2017 Jumara embarked on her Student Union journey as a Project Coordinator at the UEASU. We are incredibly proud to witness her remarkable journey come full circle, as she returns to lead the team as the Chief Executive Officer, spearheading their efforts with immense dedication and skill.
Suffolk SU Presidents, Katie and Lewis, said “It is with mixed emotions that we announce the departure of our Chief Executive, Jumara Stone, from UOSSU. During this past year, Jumara has played a pivotal role in shaping our Students’ Union, contributing valuable insights, innovative ideas, and passionate leadership.
We are immensely grateful for Jumara's hard work, dedication, and the positive impact she has had on our SU and the student experience. While she will be deeply missed, we respect and support her decision and wish her the very best at UEA SU.
As we bid farewell to Jumara, we are also looking forward to the exciting opportunities that lie ahead. We are confident in the resilience and spirit of our SU, and we will continue to work together, building upon the foundation Jumara has helped us establish.”
From all at Suffolk SU, we will be sorry to see her move on but wish her all the best for her future endeavours, and with a strong board of trustees and senior management team, will now be working hard to find a strong successor to fill her exceptional shoes and lead the organisation alongside them in the future.
