With one month to go until the return of the Reclaim the Night march to Ipswich, the University of Suffolk Students’ Union can now reveal the full details of the event.

Members of the public who would like to join in should head to the university’s Waterfront Building from 4pm on Thursday 20 February. There will be a banner making session for people to take part in, and free teas and coffees supplied by Paddy & Scott’s.

At 6pm there will be opening speeches from the Students’ Union Women’s Officer and LGBTQ+ Officer, before the march leaves at 6.15pm.

The march route will be along the waterfront, St Peter’s Street, St Nicholas Street, Queen Street, Princes Street to the Cornhill.

At the Cornhill, at approximately 7pm, there will be some short speeches about the issue of violence against women and girls, and the event will finish with a candlelit vigil in memory of those killed by domestic and other violence.

Please note – under 18s are welcome at the event, but should be accompanied by an adult.

University of Suffolk SU President Katie Pickard, who is one of the event organisers, said: “The route has been chosen as a familiar one to students walking from the university into town, so we can shine a light on some of the safety issues faced by those people on campus as well as those faced by women and girls more generally. We are looking forward to a really positive event, and hope to see plenty of people joining with us to make their voices heard.”
