Last week saw two fierce battles for trophies/bragging rights in this year’s Student v Staff sports contests.

First up was netball in the sports hall at Suffolk New Collage, where the staff team put up a valiant fight against the SU Netball squad, who clearly had skill, ability, and experience on their side! Although the staff team did agree that they’d learnt a lot from last year’s encounter and were pleased to have put in a better performance. Final score: 23-7 to the students.

The clash of the titans continued on the football pitch at Inspire later in the week, when a fresh team of staff arrived to take on the Oranges. The SU men’s team, celebrating their recent promotion in the BUCS football league, took the match to the staff with the able assistance from colleagues from the newly formed SU women’s football team.

The staff battled in the hot spring sunshine, but couldn’t overcome the student onslaught, and the students took the second trophy home to the SU trophy cabinet after an 8-2 win.

Both matches showcased incredible effort and determination from both students and staff, along with the SU duck mascot leading the cheering supporters on the sidelines. Anticipation is already building for next year’s showdown, and staff now have a newly formed sports network so they can start practising their skills for the 2026 competition!
